Calvin and Hobbes' Desktop Invasion (1995)
"Calvin and Hobbes' Desktop Invasion" was a labor of love which first began as a site entitled "Calvin and Hobbes' Suburban Jungle," a collection of daily comic strips which I scanned in, along with descriptions of the characters.
I wrote a biography of Bill Watterson, the cartoonist of the comic strip, and included a photo of Watterson - the first and only photograph of the cartoonist you were able to find on the Internet back in 1995. (I had spent three weeks searching for a photo - before a library in Alabama faxed me a photo from a community newspaper.)
I decided to change the site a little, about a year after I started working on it. I wrote a JavaScript which would randomly display a Calvin and Hobbes comic strip every minute in a small window you could keep in the corner of your screen while you worked. That's how the "Desktop Invasion" was created.
